When the Apollo brewery – situated next to Tivoli’s main entrance in Copenhagen - opened in 1990, the concept of in-house beer production was brand new in Denmark. The guests now had the opportunity to follow the beer production at close range – and enjoy the home-brewed foamy draught beer just a few yards from the handcrafted copper kettles placed at the very heart of the room. To complete the picture, Apollo introduced a menu that went hand-in-hand with the golden brew. It must have been a good idea – the concept caught on, and today, we run pub breweries in Copenhagen, Aarhus, and Herning.The breweries can best be described as a mix between an elegant traditional pub and an informal but high-quality restaurant. Common to all of them are the beautiful brewing kettles. Sparkling and full of life, they form the birthplace of A Hereford Beefstouw’s fresh draught beer - they are its very soul.

THE BEER
All of our breweries are run by a brewer who produces the beer with a deep respect for the old traditions of craftsmanship and who uses a master’s gentle touch all the way through the process. Malted barley, water, and yeast are transformed into a freshly-brewed draught beer once every month.However, in eleven months of the year, we introduce a speciality - our “Beer of The Month.” It is a new exciting brew inspired by the great variety of brands from all over the world: cherry beer, weissbier and maj-bock, just to mention a few.

The monthly brew - with an alcohol level almost always exceeding 5.8 per cent by volume - is reviewed by famous Danes in the brewery newspaper that also serves as a menu.

 

THE FOOD
It is important to keep in mind there is more to our breweries than just beer. They also boast a simple but exquisite cuisine, complementing the golden brew. Amongst other temptations, you will find spareribs, oven baked plaice and roasted rump steak. We also serve smaller meals suited for a light lunch or as an appetizer.

Children younger than 12 years of age dine at half price.
